O-1 for extraordinary ability

Japanese visual effect artist and digital compositor Miyuki Shimamoto recently receive her National Interest Waiver Green Card.

We have been handling her visas since obtaining her first O-1 in 2013. We obtained successive three year O-1 visas through agents for Miyuki until 2020. In March 2018, we filed a self-petition National Interest Waiver Green Card application for Miyuki, which was approved in August 2018. In August 2019, Miyuki received her physical Green Card.

The National Interest Waiver Green Card is available for those with Exceptional Ability in the Arts. No employer or sponsor is needed, therefore it is ideal for artists and others who are typically self-employed. Miyuki has been selfemployed since obtaining her initial O-1.  However, the O-1 visa still has some limitations, especially as you rise higher up the field.

Miyuki writes:

“Thank you again for all what you’ve done for my O-1 visas & green card.  The idea that, with my green card, I now have an access to all the career opportunities I can have in US, brings me so much joy & some kind of sense of release at the same time.”
